Arkenna Ltd ("Arkenna", "we", "us") is an independent studio in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what our games, our apps and this website collect, why we collect it, and what we never collect. We've tried to keep it short and plain.
The short version
- You never need an account, and we never ask for your name, email or phone number in our games.
- If you ask us on this website to tell you when a game is out, we keep your email for that one message.
- Your progress and settings stay on your device.
- Some games send us anonymous play data, such as which level you reached, so we can make the game better. It is tied to a random number, not to you.
- We don't track your location and we never sell data. Where a game shows adverts, it says so in its own policy.
What this policy covers
Every game and app published by Arkenna, on any store, and this website, arkenna.co.uk. Where a game does something particular, it has its own section below.
What we never collect
- Your name, email address, phone number or contacts
- Your location
- Your device's hardware identifiers (a game with adverts may use your advertising ID; see its own policy)
- Photos, files, or anything else on your device
- Payment details (stores handle all payments; see below)
On your device
Your progress, scores and settings are saved on your device only. They are deleted when you uninstall the game, and most games also let you clear them from their settings.
Anonymous play data
To learn how far players get, which levels are too hard, and where something has gone wrong, some of our games send us short notes about play. When a game does, this is what it sends:
- A random player number. The game makes this up the first time it runs. It isn't linked to your name, your Google or Apple account, or your device, and it's deleted when you uninstall the game.
- What happened and when: for example that a level was started, finished (with how many taps and how long it took) or left unfinished, or that a hint was used.
- The game's version number.
The notes are saved on your device and sent in small batches when you're online. If you're offline, they wait, and the game works just the same. We use this data only to improve our games. We don't use it for advertising, and we don't share or sell it.
Like any connection over the internet, sending these notes reveals your device's IP address to our server. We don't store it with the play data, though our hosting provider may keep it briefly in its own security logs.
We keep play data for up to two years, after which we delete it or keep only totals that can't be linked to any one player.
Where it is kept
Play data goes to a small server we run on Vercel and is stored in a database run by Neon, in London (Amazon Web Services, eu-west-2). Both act only on our instructions.
Remote settings
Our games may also download a few settings from our server when they start, such as how often something happens in the game. This sends nothing about you.
Starbright
Starbright sends anonymous play data as described above, shows adverts through Google AdMob, and offers one purchase, No ads, through Google Play. Its own privacy policy sets out exactly what it collects and why.
Launch emails
If you leave your email on this website to hear when a game comes out, we store that address, which game it was for, and the date. We use it to send you that one email, and for nothing else: no newsletters you didn't ask for, and we never share or sell it. It's kept in the same London database as above, and deleted once the launch email has gone, or straight away if you ask us.
Purchases
If one of our games or apps offers something to buy, the purchase is handled entirely by the store you bought it from, such as Google Play, the App Store or Steam. We never see or store your payment details. The store tells us only that a purchase was made, so the game can unlock it.
Advertising
Some of our games show adverts. Where one does, it says so on its store page and in its own privacy policy, including which ad network it uses and what that network collects. Starbright uses Google AdMob, and in the UK and EU asks for your consent first; you can change your choice at any time from its Settings.
This website
arkenna.co.uk doesn't use tracking cookies or analytics. If you email us, we keep your email so we can reply, and for no other reason. Launch emails are covered above.
Children
Our games are made to be enjoyed by anyone. Because we don't collect personal information from any player, we don't collect it from children either: the only data we receive is the anonymous play data described above.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Because play data is tied only to a random number, we usually can't tell which data is yours. Uninstalling the game deletes that number, so nothing new can be linked to what was sent before. If you have any question or request, write to us and we'll do what we can.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
When something changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects what a game collects, we'll make it before the game update that brings it.
